Editor’s note: Follow live updates from the Cleveland Browns preseason game against the Buffalo Bill here.

Shedeur Sanders is getting his turn to start for the Cleveland Browns as he continues to compete with Deshaun Watson for the starting job.

The second-year quarterback will have to wait a bit longer to showcase his skill-set, as the Browns vs. Bills game has been delayed because of lightning.

The lightning delay was announced by referee Bill Vinovich less than two minutes after the start of the game. A heavy rain had been falling in the contest’s opening minutes, and a nearby lightning strike necessitated a delay.

Neither the NFL nor the Browns provided an immediate update about when the preseason contest would resume.

Browns vs. Bills weather updates

The rain at Huntington Bank Field had dissipated by 1:50 p.m. ET, according to a post by Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Shortly thereafter, the Browns announced that the game would resume at 2:15 p.m. ET.

A light rain was falling at the start of the Browns vs. Bills came, but it quickly increased in intensity. The Browns and Bills only got four plays off before a nearby lightning strike, along with the heavy rain, caused the game to be delayed.

Players exited the field after the delay was called while fans were instructed by an announcement on the video board to “seek shelter immediately” on the concourse, among other locations.

But now, the fans are returning to their seats and the players to the field as the preseason contest preapres to resume.

Updated Browns vs. Bills start time

The Browns vs. Bills game is set to restart at 2:15 p.m. ET, the Browns announced on social media.

The game was “temporarily suspended” due to lightning at 1:12 p.m. ET, so the delay will end up being just over an hour long.
