The music world still isn’t over the loss of Dolly Parton – or showing their love for her.
\n\nThe MTV Video Music Awards continued the worldwide Parton praise almost exactly a month after the singer, actress and philanthropist died with a tribute performance during the Sept. 27 show that started with a old recording of Parton sending fans a message of hope and resilience.
\n\nKacey Musgraves, who is nominated for best country for “Dry Spell,” returned to the VMAs stage for the first time in five years to honor Parton.
\n\nWearing a glittering pink gown Parton would have approved of, Musgraves performed Parton's 1974 "I Will Always Love You." Her soft and lilting rendition was more Parton than Whitney Houston, whose 1992-version reaches heights only her voice could find.
\n\nThis isn’t the first time Musgraves tipped her hat to the country icon.
\n\nAt the 2016 CMA Awards, Musgraves sang Parton’s glistening “Here You Come Again” as Parton received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Three years later, Parton joined Musgraves and Katy Perry to perform the same song at the Grammy Awards as part of a tribute celebrating Parton, the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year.
