More than 25,000 bottles of blood pressure medication have been recalled for improper dissolution, which can impact the effectiveness of the drug.

Inventia Healthcare Limited, based in India, has issued two recalls for more than 25,000 bottles of its chlorthalidone tablets because the medication failed dissolution specifications, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This means the medication does not dissolve or break down at the correct speed in the body, which can affect how the active ingredient is absorbed.

Chlorthalidone is a diuretic, or water pill, that reduces the amount of water and salt in the body by increasing urine flow, which helps to lower blood pressure, according to the Mayo Clinic.

\n\n

Inventia Healthcare released an initial recall for the blood pressure medication on June 5, affecting 11,460 bottles. The company released a secondary recall for 13,567 bottles on Sept. 3. The FDA has identified both recalls as Class II, which reflects "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."
