Total solar eclipse to cross parts of Europe this week, with some U.S. states getting a partial eclipse

It’s the first time since 1999 that a total solar eclipse will be visible from mainland Europe. Some lucky skywatchers may see Perseid meteors on the same night.

A total solar eclipse will be visible Wednesday along a path that crosses the Arctic and cuts through southern Europe, briefly darkening late-afternoon skies for millions as the moon blocks the sun.
