A year after they tied the knot, “Madam Secretary” costars Téa Leoni and Tim Daly are getting another chance to experience the “miracle” of working together on TV.

Leoni, 60, and Daly, 70, will play husband-and-wife again onscreen this fall in the new NBC sitcom “Newlyweds.” Nearly seven years ago, their CBS drama “Madam Secretary” finished its six-season run. The two married in an intimate New York ceremony in July 2025.

“We were kind of sniffing around to play together again,” Leoni said at the NBCUniversal Backlot Pass media preview event on Monday, Aug. 10. “We had a lot of fun on ‘Madam Secretary.’ The world got darker, and we wanted to get lighter. We thought we’ve done this particular medium, and loved it, and we wanted to spend our days together.”

Daly added, “I mean, listen, we spent six years pretending to be married on TV, and I would get to do it again, but we actually are married. It’s a miracle. It’s really fun. It’s cool, and we still like each other.”

“Newlyweds” is described as “A later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.” Jamie Lee Curtis, an executive producer, is returning to the sitcom genre – which she described as “my favorite job” – with a recurring guest star role in the series.

“Well, we’ve been told that we have chemistry. I mean, we were told that on ‘Madam Secretary,’ and, hopefully, we exported that into this show,” Daly said. Leoni chimed in, “We haven’t lost it.”

The perks of working with your spouse, Leoni said, include knowing your scene partner inside and out.

“I can read him. I know where he’s going,” the “Deep Impact” actress shared. “It’s really fun to act with someone that you know so well because we are a little ahead with each other. It’s great. It’s really fun. We like it.”

“Newlyweds” has yet to announce its premiere date; episodes will air Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
