Hurricane Lowell wave topples meteorologist in Hawaii: Video

Powerful ocean waves nearly toppled a meteorologist in Hawaii on Sept. 8 as Hurricane Lowell brought dangerous conditions to the islands.

Mike Seidel, a weather storm specialist for Fox Weather, was doing a live TV stand-up in Kauai, Hawaii, on Sept. 8 when a massive wave swept through the area.

In the clip, the camera operator points behind Seidel seconds before the wave hits.

The ocean's force makes both Seidel and the camera operator stumble and nearly fall. For several seconds, the camera angle jolts to a view of just gushing water.

But Seidel and the cameraperson both quickly recover. "We're okay," the meteorologist said before the camera operator flashed a thumbs-up.

Lowell has been downgraded to a tropical storm as of Sept. 9. The National Hurricane Center said in a recent advisory that the storm will gradually weaken over the next few days.

Before being downgraded, Lowell, as a hurricane, passed close to the Hawaiian Islands, causing heavy winds, rainfall and widespread power outages.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green told CNN that one person, a homeless man on Oahu, died during the storm when a tree fell on him.

The storm's effects are expected to linger in the coming days.
