The glowering Claressa Shields has been missing in action this week.

Instead, as her next fight approached, she has beamed and preened.

Shields (18-0) will have a chance to add to her vast collection of championship belts when she fights Kaye Scott (5-1-1) for the WBC and WBA middleweight titles. She’s clearly relished the physical transformation it has required.

Not only has the glowering disappeared, but Shields has also lost about 15 pounds while dropping from the heavyweight ranks back down to the 160-pound middleweight division.

“I know from my own experience, once you go up in weight, it’s very difficult to come down,’’ said Dmitriy Salita, Shields’ promoter and a former pro boxer. “And she’s half the woman that she used to be.

“She’s fit. She looks great.’’

The goal wasn’t just to wow ‘em at the weigh-in.

This new phase is expected to include compelling bouts against Mikaela Mayer, Lauren Price and possibly Tamm Thibeault.

“(Shields) really dares to be great and push the limit to what could be done to initiate some of those biggest fights,’’ Salita said. “The (slimmed down) look is a bonus.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the house

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is already at the arena in Atlanta, hours before the main event. He said this week he had planned to attend. Shields has spent years arguing women’s boxing deserves this kind of attention, and the biggest name in the sport turning up for a women’s title card is a small step in the right direction.

Claressa Shields headlines a card down to four fights

Kristie Ackert

Two fights are already gone from tonight’s card in Atlanta. Danielle Perkins missed weight, wiping out her WBA light heavyweight title defense against Olivia Curry. Ernesto Mercado lost his opponent twice. Emmanuel Tagoe missed weight, then replacement Roger Hilley did too, coming in nearly nine pounds heavy. Mercado is off the card. What’s left is four fights on the DAZN card, capped by Claressa Shields dropping from heavyweight to challenge Kaye Scott for the WBC and WBA middleweight belts.

Claressa Shields has it all except one thing

Josh Peter

As a star boxer, Claressa Shields has it all. Well, almost.

Two Olympic gold medals. Nineteen world titles. A pro record of 18-0.

But, only three knockouts.

“I have more knockouts than she has wins,’’ Laila Ali said last year.

Indeed, Ali does, having finished her career 24-0 with 21 knockouts.

Shields will have another chance to quiet critics when she fights Kaye Scott for the WBA and WBC women’s middleweight world titles Saturday, Aug. 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

“I care a little bit,’’ Shields said during preparations for the fight. “Who doesn’t want a knockout?  But at the end of the day, a win is a win.’’
