Courtney Love has revealed a health scare that prompted doctors to tell her she was “going to die” seven years ago.

The Hole singer, 62, took to Instagram on Aug. 14 to share an update on her next album, which she wrote believing it would be her last.

“I went to England in 2019, and when I went there, my body just exploded,” she said in a video shared on Instagram. “I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died. I lost all my hair, I was about 100 pounds, and they told me I was going to die.”

But the “Celebrity Skin” singer said that she did not “believe” this, and “somehow, I got better.” Today, she is “healthy, which is amazing.”

“I just wasn’t public about being sick,” she added. “I don’t want to be public. I’m fine now.”

Courtney Love attends the "Moonage Daydream" premiere on Sept. 5, 2022, in London.

Love did not go into details about her health issues, but she previously revealed in 2021 that she “almost died” the year prior from anemia.

“I’ve been sad, and extremely sick,” she said in a since-deleted Instagram post in 2021, adding that she was “debilitated” and in “indescribable pain,” according to People.

Anemia is a condition where the body “does not have enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to carry oxygen to the body’s tissues,” according to the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms can include tiredness, weakness and shortness of breath.

Love, who was married to Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain from 1992 until his death in 1994, shared the revelation as she gave an update on a new album. The Grammy nominee has not released a solo album since 2004’s “America’s Sweetheart.” She last released an album with Hole in 2010 with “Nobody’s Daughter,” which she noted in her video was a flop.

Love said in her update that her new album is “done,” but she is still figuring out the best way to roll it out. In the caption of the video, she wrote that when she made it, she “believed this was my last record,” so she created “the record I always wanted to make.”

“I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t all I did was write & record it.”

Love has not shared a release date or title for the album. According to NME, she said at an event in 2025 that her album has been in the works since 2009 and that she planned to return to touring after its release. A documentary about Love, “Antiheroine,” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January.
