Starved of air defenses, Ukraine’s cities and civilians are increasingly vulnerable

Kyiv is desperate for more interceptors, but the U.S. is itself running low because of the Iran war and is reluctant to further deplete its supply, Western and U.S. officials told NBC News.

KYIV, Ukraine — The Russian barrage shook her walls and shattered her window glass before shrapnel slammed, initially unnoticed, into her back. Anastasiia Holubieva scratched her head and looked down to see her hand covered in blood — the work of one of dozens of rockets fired on a recent night during which the Ukrainian capital could only intercept a single missile.
