‘DWTS: The Next Pro’ raises the stakes with ‘toughest challenge yet’ | Exclusive
“If you can’t teach an amateur, you should not be on the show,” judge Mark Ballas tells the pro dancers in an exclusive sneak peek of “Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.”
The pressure is on as the finale of “Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro” looms.
Fan-favorite “Dancing with the Stars” pro Witney Carson joins the Monday, Aug. 17 episode, stepping in to mentor contestants competing for a highly-coveted spot in the upcoming semifinals. USA TODAY has an exclusive sneak peek of what is described as the show’s “toughest challenge yet.”
“This challenge goes to the very core of the job on ‘Dancing with the Stars,'” judge Mark Ballas tells the dancers. “If you can’t teach an amateur, you should not be on the show.”
Carson then reveals, “Each of you will be dancing a ballroom routine with fans of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ and you have only two days to get them ready to perform.”
Noting that at the end of this challenge, one dancer will be going home, host Robert Irwin drops another bombshell. To make it even more high-stakes, the five fans are social media influencers – Jeremy Urann, Zaira Yzabelle, Jay Wyson, Bailey McKnight and Anthony Riccardo.
“I’m feeling a ton of pressure,” Selena Hamilton admits. “I’ve only been doing ballroom for three years, so teaching an adult that has no ballroom experience at all, it’s nerve-wracking.”
Stream now with Disney+ and Hulu
The new spinoff series debuted its inaugural season in July, following a group of 12 dancers living in a house together as they compete for a chance to be a pro on “Dancing with the Stars.”
The series is hosted by Irwin, who won season 34 of the ABC competition show with Carson, and features longtime pro Mark Ballas and his mother Shirley Ballas, known as the “Queen of Latin,” as judges. Each week of the audition process, a different “DWTS” pro also appears as a mentor and guest judge.
“Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro” airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, and is available to stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
