A California-based food manufacturer has recalled nearly 1,000 pounds of ready-to-eat catfish skin snacks because they were imported from China.

Asian America Trading Inc. recalled four products, including Crispy Fish Skin Crackers, because China doesn’t have the right to import siluriformes, more commonly known as catfish, products to the United States. The products were sent to retailers in more than 15 California cities, including Oakland, Sacramento and San Francisco, the company confirmed to USA TODAY.

The company issued the alert on the Food Safety and Inspection Service website on Monday, Aug. 17.

“The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities of imported products in commerce,” the company said, adding that there have been no reports of illness or injury due to the recall.

Here’s what to know.

Which products were recalled?

The following products were distributed to California retailers and recalled:

  • Green, 50-gram plastic bag of Un Chi Crisp Fish Skin (wasabi flavor)
  • Purple, 50-gram plastic bag of Un Chi Crisp Fish Skin (laver flavor)
  • Red, 50-gram plastic bag of Fish Skin Crackers (spicy flavor)
  • Yellow, 50-gram plastic bag of Crispy Fish Skin Crackers (salted egg flavor)
Fish skin products recalled in August 2026 because they were manufactured in China, which does not have permission to export ready-to-eat siluriformes to the U.S.

What should I do if I have the products?

The FSIS said some customers may have the fish skin products in their pantries. Those who have the recalled products should not eat them and should throw them away or return them for a full refund, the alert said.
