Chargers’ Tyler Biadasz carted off from practice with leg injury

Updated Aug. 18, 2026, 4:09 p.m. ET

The Los Angeles Chargers might not be able to leave behind their injury woes up front.

Center Tyler Biadasz was carted off from a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, Aug. 18, according to multiple reporters on the scene, and was unable to put any weight on his leg.

Biadasz was hurt when 49ers defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez fell on his knee during the full team portion of the practice.

Signed in March to a three-year, $30 million contract, Biadasz figured to be a critical figure for a Chargers line that limped to the finish line last season. Left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a torn patellar tendon last August, and Joe Alt – who flipped over from the right side following the injury – was knocked out by season-ending ankle surgery near midseason.

Finding himself under siege throughout the season, quarterback Justin Herbert ended up with the highest pressure rate (43.3%) of any passer last season, according to Next Gen Stats. He ranked third in sacks taken with 54.

Even with Slater and Alt are back in the fold – the former is still working his way back after a knee flare-up – more questions could be popping up on the already suspect interior offensive line.

If Biadasz is sidelined for the long term, the Chargers might turn to second-round rookie Jake Slaughter to step in at center. The Florida product had been part of a five-way competition for the starting left guard job but took over for Biadasz after the practice injury.
