Alabama survives another FSU upset bid. What happens next for Mike Norvell?

Alabama football had over a year to stew on its upset at Florida State in 2025.

Kalen DeBoer and Co. got one back on Mike Norvell's Seminoles on Saturday, Sept. 19, weathering an early barrage from the upset-minded FSU squad to pull through for a 50-36 victory in Tuscaloosa.

The story of the game inevitably will be the growth of first-year starter Keelon Russell, who engineered an Alabama comeback from down 21-6 in the second quarter. He had easily the best game of his young career, completing 23-of-30 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns, adding a 57-yard rushing touchdown for good measure.

As good as Russell was in the victory, Alabama fans will be more pleased with what appears to be a jelling offensive line — particularly in the running game. The Crimson Tide rushed 36 times as a team for 249 yards and three scores. Daniel Hill (5.4 yards per carry) Trae'shawn Brown (7.2 ypc) and EJ Crowell (7.3 ypc) all averaged more than 5 yards a carry.

Once again, Florida State's proclivity for turnovers cost them. Quarterback Ashton Daniels completed 17-of-29 passes for 382 yards and two touchdowns as Alabama had little answer for FSU's big-bodied receivers…
