Tom Kim making an early move with four straight birdies
While those on the course now don’t really have a shot at the win this week, in the playoffs every spot on the leaderboard matters to maximize points so there’s plenty for players around the top 50 or top 30 bubbles to play for this weekend. Tom Kim began the week 26th and after a disastrous back nine on Friday, he’d slipped down into 45th on the leaderboard and was in danger of slipping down towards the top 30 bubble going into the BMW Championship.
The Scottish Open winner has bounced back early on Saturday, opening his third round with a par on the 1st before ripping off four birdies in a row to climb back into the top 20 at T19. He’s still projected to slide to 27th if he were to stay in T19, but that’s considerably better position than starting next week on or outside the bubble as would’ve be likely if he finished this week in the bottom half of the field.
