Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza announces temporary hiatus

Updated Aug. 7, 2026, 4:17 p.m. ET

Katseye is losing another person, at least for a short while, as second member of the girl group is taking a break.

Group member Sophia Laforteza will take a temporary hiatus from the group to focus on her mental health, the group shared in a statement Friday, Aug. 7. Her decision to step away from the group comes one week before their new EP, Wild, comes out.

“We are very sorry to share that Sophia will be temporarily unable to participate in upcoming promotional activities,” the group said in a statement uploaded to the app Weverse. “We understand how much EYEKONS were looking forward to seeing Sophia on stage, but it is imperative that her mental health and wellness are prioritized.”

The statement continued, “Sophia has been receiving the utmost support, and following thorough consultations with medical professionals, it has been advised that she take dedicated time for extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery.”

Laforteza shared a statement of her own on her Instagram story, emphasizing that the hiatus will be temporary and that she intends to return.

“It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot. You know how much I love being on stage, performing, and sharing these moments with you,” she wrote in a post on her Instagram stories. “Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first. I’m realizing that if I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long.”

She thanked the fans for their support, writing: “It means more to me than I could ever say. I promise I’m going to work as hard as I can to get through this, heal properly, and come back stronger.”

Katseye members on hiatus: Sophia Laforteza, Manon Bannerman step away

While Laforteza emphasized that this leave is temporary, this marks the second person in the originally six-person global girl group to announce their departure, citing mental and physical health concerns. Earlier this year, Manon Bannerman shared that she would be taking a temporary hiatus to focus on her “health and well-being.”

The group, which got its start after being formed on the Netflix competition series “Dream Academy,” now consists of Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae.
