Solange Knowles is honoring her former costar Hayden Panettiere with a heartfelt tribute following Panettiere’s death on Sunday, Aug. 16.
The “Binz” singer and sister to Beyoncé Knowles-Carter took to Instagram to pay tribute to her “Bring It On: All or Nothing” costar. The two starred in the film in 2006, initially, as rival cheerleading captains. Knowles was 20 years old at the time of the movie release while Panettiere was days away from turning 17.
In a story post, Knowles wrote: “Rest in peace Hayden. In peace, because you are deserving of it. We had so many parallels, and the world watched you so courageously live in your radical truth telling your story. We watched your endless quest for vulnerability and healing. I salute your journey and I honor the work we created together that became something that really means something to people… reaching people we never could’ve imagined at that time, as two young girls, trying to keep looking to the light. The light surrounds you now. Rest easy Hayden.”
Knowles also shared photos of the two from the movie, adding the caption “warriors for life” as they posed together in their cheerleading uniforms.
Francia Raisa and other castmates from the 2006 movie also paid tribute to the late actress with Raisa saying she was “stuck” hearing about Panettiere’s death.
The “Nashville” star was found unresponsive at Judson Mill Lofts in Greenville, S.C., on Aug. 16, the Greenville Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY.
Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the apartment complex after an acquaintance of Panettiere called 911, Greenville Police Sgt. Jonathan Bragg told USA TODAY in a statement. “Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Bragg said.
The famed actress had spoken out in recent years about her troubles with addiction and the effects of childhood stardom. Panettiere began her career as a baby and became best known for her roles in TV series like “Heroes” and “Nashville.”
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her – and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” her father, Skip Panettiere, said in a statement.
Panettiere is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya.
