The Buffalo Bills are mourning the death of defensive tackle Ed Oliver’s 2-year-old son, the team announced Saturday.

“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son. It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss,” team general manager Brandon Beane said in a statement Saturday.

The team did not disclose the cause of death.

In June, however, authorities in Harris County, Texas, responded to a report of a toddler drowning at an address that, according to property records, matches the area where Oliver has a listed address.

Deputies responded to a report of a toddler found unresponsive in a swimming pool on the 500 block of Lago Trace Drive, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said at the time.

“The toddler was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at the time, without identifying the victim.

NBC News has reached out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Oliver’s representatives for comment.

Oliver, 28, is from Houston, played college football for the Houston Cougars and is entering his eighth NFL season with the Bills.
