Ground cinnamon sold in 6 states recalled. See affected product

Ground cinnamon seasoning sold in six states has been recalled because it may be contaminated with lead.

Galil Importing Corp of New York has recalled its Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning because the product may contain elevated levels of lead, according to a Sept. 24 U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall report. Short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not cause symptoms other than elevated blood lead levels. If a child is exposed to lead for a few weeks to a few months, permanent damage can occur to the central nervous system, according to the FDA.

As of Sept. 24, Galil was not aware of any illnesses related to the recall.

Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning with the UPC 794711005484 is affected by the recall; it was sold in 90-gram transparent plastic containers with lot code GAP11304, according to the Sept. 24 notice.

The recalled Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning was sold at retail stores, grocery stores, delis and supermarkets in the following states:

Do not consume the recalled ground cinnamon. The FDA advises consumers to discard or return the affected product to the place of purchase for a refund.
