Mumford & Sons lassoed a special guest for the first of three performances at Madison Square Garden.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, “Ted Lasso” star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis joined the English band onstage for a performance of the Apple TV comedy’s theme song.

Sudeikis, 50, belted out the track while dressed casually in a cap, black hoodie and khaki shorts, as seen in a video shared by Live Nation NYC. He playfully tapped his foot to the beat and snapped his fingers. The funnyman and frontman, Marcus Mumford, hugged at the song’s end.

Mumford, 39, previously told USA TODAY that he and Sudeikis became friends when they first appeared as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” in 2012. Sudeikis joined NBC’s long-running sketch show as a writer in 2003 and became a cast member before leaving in 2013.

“Despite being an American comedy great, Jason has a real British taste in his sense of humor,” Mumford said in 2020. “So that’s one of the reasons we hit it off, for sure.”

Mumford said Sudeikis requested the theme song in “a very long message” on his phone. His American phone specifically, “which I don’t keep on when I’m in the U.K. So I actually missed it, and it had been in my phone for a couple of months, and he thought I was just ghosting him. So when I finally picked it up, I called him and was like, ‘So sorry, man, but I’d love to talk more about your TV show.’”

Mumford and composer Tom Howe put the song together “in a 24-hour period” at Mumford’s home. “We didn’t want to overthink it: It needed to feel natural and not overproduced.” “Ted Lasso” kicked off Season 4 on Aug. 5, more than three years after the Season 3 finale. Once again, Ted has moved from Kansas City back to Richmond for a soccer coaching opportunity. This time, Ted’s son Henry (Grant Feely) and his ex-wife Michelle (Andrea Anders) have joined him, and he’s coaching Richmond’s women’s team.
