Justin Verlander’s final MLB start: Highlights, stats, reaction from farewell outing

One of baseball's greatest pitching careers came to an end on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander made his final start of his major league career, bringing an end to a journey that spanned more than two decades, multiple Cy Young Awards, MVP honors, championships and thousands of strikeouts.

Verlander went five innings and added six strikeouts to his career total, but also gave up two solo home runs in his final start. He left the mound for the last time with his daughter, Genevieve, holding his hand, and left the field with his family and a final hat tip to the crowd.

Verlander emerged as one of the best pitchers of his generation, combining elite velocity, durability and postseason success while starring for several contenders throughout his career. Along the way, he built a resume that places him among the most accomplished starting pitchers in baseball history.
