Kaia Gerber is reflecting on body image and how being the daughter of Cindy Crawford came into play.

The model and actress, who stars in Ryan Murphy’s new FX teen thriller “The Shards,” said it “rocks” that people reacting to the series are calling it “so sexy” in an Aug. 11 cover interview with Vogue. But she also reflected on her place in a media cycle “where people are very, very, very thin.”

“As someone who’s been thin most of my life, I’ve always been compared against my mom – like, What’s wrong with Kaia?” she told the outlet. “I’m so jealous of my mom’s body. I would have loved to be born with boobs and a butt.”

Gerber, the daughter of Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, started modeling at a younger age than her mother, booking a Young Versace’s campaign at 10. She said incessant comments about her over the years have hurt more than helped.

“People have always commented on my body, which is hard because I’m not always ready to comment on my own body, you know?” she added. “I’ve had disordered eating in my life. People are like, ‘You look terrible,’ and it doesn’t exactly make you go, ‘Oh, good. Let me get over this mental illness then!’ Negativity has never saved someone’s life.”

Kaia Gerber opens up about Lewis Pullman relationship

The “Palm Royale” star also spoke on her dating life being under the microscope. She has been romantically linked to Pete Davidson, Jacob Elordi, Austin Butler and, now, Lewis Pullman, son of actor Bill Pullman.

Gerber described the relationship as the most mature and healthiest she’s ever experienced.

“There are so few things you get to protect as a famous person, and being defined by who you date when you’re 18 is something I find challenging,” she said. “I think I’ve been labeled in ways that are quite misogynistic: serial dater, slut, greedy.”

Kaia Gerber and Lewis Pullman depart from Hotel Excelsior during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 2, 2025, in Venice.

She continued, “I think the ultimate goal is that your relationship doesn’t change you, that you’re not code switching between relationship, friendship, professional life. I would love to always feel like me, and in this relationship I’m having the pleasure of doing that.”

Gerber stars opposite Homer Gere, the son of her mother’s former flame Richard Gere, in Murphy’s adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ coming-of-age novel “The Shards.”

Gerber previously told USA TODAY that she and Gere broke the ice before filming by addressing the elephant in the room.

“I knew obviously we were going to address it,” Gerber said at the series’ July 27 premiere at New York’s SVA Theatre. “So I think I just was like, ‘If I say it first, then we don’t really ever have to talk about it again.’ And I think we both literally immediately were like, ‘Well,’ and hugged and then very quickly realized we have so much more in common in other spaces, and that was kind of like the least interesting thing about our relationship.”

Gere went on to share kind words about his kindred costar. “She’s very friendly and intelligent and quirky,” he said. “She’s just a good, nice person.”
