Kate Beckinsale sparks concern with cryptic Instagram posts – ‘I give up’

Kate Beckinsale has sparked concern online with a pair of cryptic, since-deleted social media posts.

The "Underworld" actress, 53, shared an Instagram post on Sunday, Sept. 20, with the word "bye" written in white text over a black background and no caption. The star also shared a message on her Instagram Stories: "Congratulations. You won. I give up," the post said in white text written over a photo of a rainbow.

Beckinsale later deleted both posts.

USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Beckinsale for comment.

Over the past year, the "Van Helsing" star has been open about her struggles with grief after her mother died in July 2025 from cancer and her stepfather died in 2024.

"I watched my 31-year-old father die of a huge heart attack, and then I watched my stepfather die, and I watched my mother degenerate and die," Beckinsale, whose father died in 1979, said in an emotional video in 2025.
