Little League World Series recaps, highlights, box scores for Aug. 23 games

The first elimination day of the 2026 Little League World Series has concluded.

Canada, Ohio, Japan and Alabama survived and advanced while Australia, Massachusetts, Dominican Republic and California were eliminated.

The original field of 20 teams was reduced to 16 teams and now the focus turns to the winner’s bracket games on Sunday, Aug. 23 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania with four LLWS games on the schedule. In addition, the Little League players get to take a break from competing this evening to enjoy the 2026 MLB Little League Classic at the historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Curacao’s Juriënsly De Windt and Giendry Ryan lead team to win over South Korea

When you have two pitchers that can accumulate strikeouts on swing-and-miss stuff. You use them both. And that’s exactly what Curacao did in the 1-0 win over South Korea. De Windt and Ryan each had fabulous pitching lines and the world just saw that they can do in a game.

And the only run of the game? Well, that came all the way back in the top of the first inning when Giendry Ryan scored on a steal of home. What’s next for Curacao? That would be Game 29 of the Little League World Series on Wednesday, Aug. 26 vs Nicaragua, 1 p.m. on (ESPN).

Two stars were shown sharing seats on a bus to Lamade Stadium, as Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was next to Alabama two-way star Kinley Rasmus, the daughter of former MLB player Cory Rasmus. Rasmus’ two uncles are former MLB outfielder Colby Rasmus and Case Rasmus, who’s the Phenix City Little League manager.

Rasmus is coming off a 6-inning shut out performance against Washington, in which she allowed only one hit with eight strikeouts.

Major League Baseball gets a piece of the action Sunday, Aug. 23 as the excitement and celebration that engulfs central Pennsylvania this time of year shines the spotlight on a pair of first-place MLB teams.

The Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers are set to meet at Historic Bowman Field in the 2026 Little League Classic.

Nevada wins the showdown of the undefeated teams

The first game of today’s winner’s bracket schedule was a tight contest for four full innings.

Then Nevada took over in the bottom of the fifth. Nevada had that big inning – five runs – and that was the difference in the game. Nevada starting pitcher Brooks McFarland set the tone with his pitching outing: McFarland’s line: 5IP, 2H, 0R, 4BB, 5K. He threw 87 pitches and now has to rest for four days. Logan Edwards came on for the sixth inning and got two strikeouts. Edwards only threw 10 pitches – so he doesn’t have to rest.

Nevada (2-0) will now play the winner of Iowa/New Jersey on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, Washington (2-1) drops into the loser’s bracket and will play the loser of Pennsylvania/Alabama on Tuesday 3 p.m.
