The storm weakened overnight after making landfall as a Category 2 hurricane near Destin, Florida.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts, the National Hurricane Center said in an advisory at 5 a.m. ET.

\n\n

A slow weakening is forecast today, as Isaias is expected to move across Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley, with the storm forecast to dissipate on Sunday.

\n\n

There is a risk of flash flooding, with the storm bringing 4 to 8 inches across southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend, and southwest Georgia, according to the advisory. "Localized totals up to 15 inches are possible, particularly within banding across the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend."

\n\n

The advisory warned that "considerable impacts" were still likely across much of southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle into southwestern Georgia, with flash flooding risks across the wider region.

\n\n

The number of electricity customers without power late tonight was around 872,144 nationwide, according to tracking website poweroutage.us.

\n\n

Nearly half, around 434,275, were in Florida where Hurricane Isaias made landfall on the state’s Panhandle at around 8:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. ET).

\n\n
