Is Kit Connor your new Cyclops?

After Deadline reported that the 22-year-old actor has landed the role of Scott Summers, all eyes are on how the “Heartstoppers” star would fit in the upcoming X-Men film.

The mutants’ powerful beam-wielding team captain is among several characters being cast for the movie, with its Emma Frost also reportedly cast. Sadie Sink has already been confirmed to portray telepath Jean Grey, one of the X-Men’s most powerful figures and Summers’ longtime wife, after her reveal in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Marvel has yet to publicly confirm Connor’s casting. USA TODAY has reached out to Marvel and Connor’s rep for comment.

The English actor is best known for the Netflix LGBTQ coming-of-age TV show “Heartstopper” and its film, “Heartstopper Forever,” as Nick, one half of the teen British schoolboys who fall in love in the series. He is also set to star in A24’s 2028 film “Elden Ring,” based on the hit video game.

As a child actor, he starred in the British adventure series “Rocket’s Island” and the mini-series “War & Peace” and “SS-GB.” Stateside, he appeared in 2018’s “Ready Player One” and as a young Elton John in 2019’s “Rocketman.”

His voice has been heard in the HBO series “His Dark Materials” and 2024’s “The Wild Robot,” and will be heard in the upcoming “Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory” as the titular character.

On Broadway, he starred opposite Rachel Zegler as Romeo Montague in “Romeo + Juliet.”

In a 2025 interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked him about previous rumors that he was set to take on the role of another Marvel character, Hulkling. At the time, his “Heartstoppers” costar had just starred in the MCU as Wiccan in “Agatha All Along.”

“Joe [Locke] is doing that, and I’m kind of happy to watch from the sidelines, for a while at least,” Connor said at the time. “One of the beauties of this industry is you never take anything for granted or as a guarantee. There’s lots of things that are bubbling.”

X-Men movie release date

Marvel has not publicly confirmed a release date for the unnamed X-Men film.
