The last time we saw Matthew McConaughey, he was driving a school bus into an inferno. This time? Costarring with bees.

In “The Rivals of Amziah King,” the A-list Texan stars as a musical beekeeper who reconnects with his estranged foster daughter while also fending off threats to his honey business. That’s hitting theaters as well as “Nimrods,” a coming-of-age comedy starring Mason Thames as the leader of a teenage punk trio that’s based on the early touring days of Green Day. But if 1980s nostalgia and rampaging dinosaurs are more your jam, the sci-fi thriller “The End of Oak Street” stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a suburban mom and dad whose entire neighborhood gets mysteriously plopped into a prehistoric landscape.

Matthew McConaughey stopped by our New York City studio this week to chat about “The Rivals of Amziah King,” a music-driven thriller in which he plays a mischievous Oklahoman who teaches his one-time foster kid (Angelina LookingGlass) about the shockingly cutthroat honey business. Fun fact: He plays a beekeeper but admits to my pal Patrick Ryan that he found out during filming he’s actually allergic to bees.

They moved one scene where he had tens of thousands of bees swarming around to the end of production “in case I got bit. Then you don’t need this face on film anymore!” says McConaughey, who also tells how he got too stoned once with Willie Nelson and breaks down the must-haves at a family potluck dinner.

The musical coming-of-age comedy “Nimrods” centers on a teen punk band in Kansas City who are pranked into believing that they’re opening for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve show in LA. The movie was inspired by Green Day’s early days of touring, and I chatted with band members about the real-life incidents that got the Hollywood treatment. One of them was the infamous mud fight at Woodstock 1994, where bass player Mike Dirnt got his front teeth knocked out tussling with a security guard. “At the end of the day, we had a great time,” he recalls. “If you’ve got to take one on the chin to be awesome in history, go ahead.”

The new film adds the young Analog Dogs to the canon of fictional movie bands, and I ranked the best of the best, from Spinal Tap and the Wonders to Huntrix and the Blues Brothers.

Thrill to Ewan McGregor facing off with vicious dinosaurs in ‘The End of Oak Street’

The sci-fi thriller “The End of Oak Street” features Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway as parents faced with a crazy situation for their family when the neighborhood gets sucked into the Jurassic era, thanks to a mysterious wormhole. I talked with McGregor about costarring with Hathaway as well as a bunch of dinosaurs who chase them, though the Scottish actor admits the running isn’t that difficult. “The heightened state of fear that you have to sort of keep up in the air for three months − that’s quite exhausting.”
