Zohran Mamdani’s favorability in New York City continues to grow, a recent Siena University poll shows.

The poll, taken earlier this month, asked hundreds of likely NY voters their opinion on the mayor, with many in the city seeing him in a favorable light.

Here’s what to know.

What is Mamdani’s favorability?

Mamdani, who took office in January, has enjoyed climbing favorability among voters.

The Siena poll, released Aug. 12, surveyed 811 likely New York voters on their opinions for many politicians in the state, including Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mamdani.

For Mamdani, his favorability rating was high in the city. In NYC, 69% of those polled viewed Mamdani as favorable, while 24% viewed him as unfavorable. Approximately 8% did not know or did not have an opinion.

In June, another Siena poll reported that his NYC rating was at 58-26%. The poll was conducted from June 17 to 23 among 1,120 New York State registered voters.

For New York State, his favorability numbers are starkly different. Approximately 47% showed the mayor in a favorable light, while 44% viewed him as unfavorable.

In the same June poll, Mamdani’s state favorability sat at 45-34%. At the time, 21% did not know or did not have an opinion.

In Upstate New York, his favorability is 41-46%. Currently, the mayor is at an unspecified location upstate on vacation with his family.

For the first time, Siena asked the respondents how they view the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA, of which Mamdani is a member. In the state, the majority viewed the organization in an unfavorable light, at 30-47%. Approximately 23% had no opinion.

For New York City, however, DSA held a 49-32% favorability rating. Approximately 20% were still unsure.
