Nevada def. Montana, headed to Williamsport, PA

Nevada showcased a dominant outing against Montana to knock them out of contention in the regional championship. Nevada defeated Montana, 9-2, to advance to the Little League World Series championship round from Aug. 19 to Aug. 30 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Nevada shutout is ruined, Montana scores on error

Montana registered its first run of the game in the top 6th inning. Finn Faaborg singled on a ground ball to second baseman Owen Guzman. Montana’s Ty Barnes scored after an error by Guzman. On the same error, Jaxson Podoll advanced to 3rd and Faaborg advances to second.

Montana scored a second time, this time after a Braezyn Erekson ground ball single that went to center fielder Mikey Kleiner. Podoll scored, Faaborg went to 3rd. Montana trailed 9-2.

James Esber gives Nevada a 9-0 lead

James Esber took matters into own hands to add to the Nevada lead. At the bottom fifth inning, Esber singles on a line drive to center fielder Gabe McPherson. He stole second and third, then scored on an error from catcher Braezyn Erekson.

Nevada is three outs away

Owen Guzman has pitched 10 strikeouts to pace Nevada who is three outs away from a trip to South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Carsynn Meyer gets first hit, Nevada adds two runs

Carsynn Meyer got her first hit when she sent a fly ball to the outfield. It was mishandled by Montana right fielder Luke Guerin. Michael Guerrero went to 3rd.

The next batters helped to extend the lead. After Meyer, Owen Guzman hit a ground ball after reaching on an error by first baseman Ricky Hopkins. Guerrero scored as Meyer got to 3rd. Logan Edwards grounded out. But Meyer eventually made it back home when Hudson Cowley hit a ground ball and reached on another error by Hopkins.

Nevada held a 8-0 lead going into the top fifth inning.

Montana’s first hit happens in 4th inning

Montana didn’t register its first hit of the game until the top of the fourth inning. Jaxson Podoll singled a ground ball to right fielder Jace Ward. However they weren’t able to round the bases for a score.

Nevada takes commanding 6-0 lead through 3rd

After Jake Ward connected a two-run single, he found himself advancing to second base. He scored after the next batter, Mikey Kleiner, singled on a ground ball to center fielder Finn Faaborg. Montana had a wild pitch in the sequence that allowed Ward to cruise to 3rd base.

Nevada added to their lead, tack on 3 runs in 3rd inning

Nevada was able to get runners on all bases, loading the field up, putting them in prime scoring position. Montana pitchers walked Brooks McFarland which allowed Owen Guzman to score, putting Nevada ahead 3-0.

Logan Edwards went to 3rd, as Hudson Cowley advanced to 2nd. Next batter was Jace Ward and he hit a two-run single on a fly ball to left fielder Montana’s Gabe McPherson.

Edwards and Cowley scored, giving Ward two RBIs as he advanced to second. Brooks McFarland advanced to 3rd. Nevada held a 5-0 advantage.

Nevada’s Owen Guzman hot start at pitching

Owen Guzman has tossed seven strikeouts through three innings against Montana. The kid is putting on a masterclass early on in the Little League Baseball World Series Mountain Region.

Nevada opens with a couple runs

Nevada set the tone in the first inning, managing to string a couple of scoring runs to take an early lead. Finley LaFuze pitching for Montana and allowed two walks to begin that game.

After a ground out from Nevada’s Hudson Cowley, they turned a couple of runs. Owen Guzman scored after a wild pitch, Logan Edwards advanced to third on the same pitch. Then Brooks McFarland hit a sacrifice fly to center fielder Finn Faaborg as Edwards scored a run. Nevada led 2-0.
