An MSC Cruises ship helped rescue people from a vessel in distress.

Spanish authorities asked MSC Musica to assist the nearby vessel on July 31, the cruise line told USA TODAY. The ship was on its way to Ibiza at the time.

The ship departed from Valencia on July 30 as part of a Mediterranean cruise, according to CruiseMapper.

“The ship dispatched a tender boat to the vessel to provide the occupants with medical care and support,” MSC said in an emailed statement. “The individuals were transferred directly from the ship’s tender to the care of a Spanish coast guard vessel.”

The cruise line did not specify the type of vessel that was in distress, how many people were in it or or who they were. The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Society did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The ship continued to its destination with “minimal impact” to its schedule, MSC added.

The incident isn’t the only one of its kind in recent months. A Silversea Cruises ship helped rescue a man from a disabled sailing vessel nearly 500 miles off the Oregon coast in late May, after a Carnival Cruise Line ship rescued nine people from a vessel in distress during a Caribbean cruise earlier that month.
