North Carolina teen indicted for murder in San Diego mosque shooting, accused of helping livestream attack

A 17-year-old North Carolina girl who recorded a livestream of a shooting that killed three people at a San Diego mosque in May, and disseminated the attackers' white supremacist writings, has been charged with murder by aiding and abetting, a district attorney said Monday.

The girl's name was not immediately released during a news conference announcing the charges. Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill said at a news conference that she was arrested last week and indicted by a grand jury Monday, just before she was due to begin the school year.

"The thought of her going back to school or with the weekend approaching, holy days approaching, we didn't know what she was capable of," O'Neill said.

He also explained that under North Carolina law, "a person who aids and abets another to commit a crime is guilty of that crime … just as if he or she had personally done all of the acts necessary to constitute the crime."
