Jalapeño peppers sold at Costco stores are being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.

The recall was initiated by Houston-based Dairyland Produce, LLC, doing business as Hardie’s Fresh Foods. The peppers were sold in stores across Texas, according to an Aug. 17 U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice. Hardie’s has since stopped producing and distributing the peppers, according to the agency.

The warning comes amid a spate of jalapeño recalls linked to a multi-state salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 300 people. The FDA notice did not say that this latest recall was linked to that outbreak or its associated recall list, which has expanded in recent weeks to include produce sold at Whole Foods, Hannaford, Kroger, Target, Walmart and more.

At the time of the initial notice, the peppers were not included in the running FDA list of products recalled in that outbreak.

Which jalapeños are recalled?

The affected jalapeños were produced by Dairyland Produce and repacked by Hardie’s Fresh Foods. Labels may still read “Dairyland Produce,” as in the photo above.

The peppers were sold at two known Costco locations in Dallas and Stafford, Texas, in clear plastic bags labeled “Pepper Jalapeno.”

  • Lot codes: X2741775, X2741859, X2744163, X2744706, X2746349, X2746490, X2748743
  • Production dates: 26192 (07/11/26), 26196 (07/15/26), 26197 (07/16/26), 26199 (07/18/26), and 26203 (07/22/26).

What to do with recalled jalapeños

Consumers who have purchased recalled jalapeños should not eat them and should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can contact the company at 1-281-697-7067.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning usually start six hours to six days after ingesting the bacteria. The most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

While most healthy people can recover in four to seven days without treatment, some vulnerable people, such as children under 5, adults 65 and older and those with weakened immune systems, may experience more severe illness that requires medical treatment or hospitalization.

If you experience any of these more serious symptoms, the CDC advises contacting your health care professional:

• Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 degrees Fahrenheit
• Diarrhea for more than three days that is not improving
• Bloody diarrhea
• Vomiting to the point that you cannot keep liquids down
• Signs of dehydration, such as not urinating much, dry mouth and throat, and feeling dizzy when standing up

Other jalapeno recalls

The FDA did not state in its notice that the recalled Hardie’s Fresh Foods jalapeños were part of a larger, ongoing jalapeño recall linked to a multi-state salmonella outbreak.

USA TODAY has reached out to the FDA and Hardie’s to confirm that this recall is separate from the one initiated on Coast Citrus Distributors peppers earlier this month, which has included products from Taylor Farms, Whole Foods and NatureBest, and been sold at stores such as HEB, Hannaford, Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Stop and Shop.
