Aaron Judge to miss Yankees’ wild-card series, Aaron Boone says

Aaron Judge will almost certainly sit out the New York Yankees' upcoming American League wild-card series due to a calf strain, manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Judge missed 75 games this season with a rib fracture and then suffered the calf strain in just his seventh game back Sept. 16 at Minnesota. While the Yankees have fared well enough without him – they head into Tuesday 89-66 and can clinch the No. 1 wild card spot with one more victory – his lineup presence will be greatly missed in the postseason.

The Yankees will likely play the Boston Red Sox for the second consecutive year in an AL wild-card best-of-three that begins Tuesday, Sept. 29.

"We're planning on him not being a part of that," says Boone, who also noted Judge had a platelet-poor plasma injection in the leg.

Boone told reporters in New York that Judge suffered a "moderate grade" strain of his right calf, which the Vermont Sports Medicine Center defines as the "largest and most variable category" of injury.
