New York Mets name Andy Green as full time manager

Five weeks ago, David Stearns said he expected Andy Green to return to the front office after the season. Instead, the New York Mets interim manager is staying in the dugout with the "interim" title removed.

The Mets signed Green to a three-year deal as their full-time manager, the team announced on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

"Andy has connected with and pushed our players to perform, despite the disappointment of the season,” owners Steve and Alex Cohen said in a statement. “Over the last several months he has brought discipline, accountability and positivity to the clubhouse, attributes we were seeking in our next manager. We want to congratulate Andy, his wife, Jessica, and their three daughters. We are excited for his continued leadership in the dugout."

Green, 49, took over on June 26, the day the Mets fired Carlos Mendoza with the team at 34-47 and 13 games under .500. They've gone 37-38 since. That won't get the $370 million roster, second in baseball, anywhere near the postseason. The Mets are 71-85 going into Tuesday night's game at Texas and in last place in the National League East.
