Moving day at the BMW Championship was full of good golf as the PGA Tour returns to Bellerive Country Club for the second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

After an early scare with a double bogey on the opening hole, Wyndham Clark finished out Round 3 as the leader on Saturday, Aug. 22. The U.S. Open champion evened out the mishap with an eagle and flew ahead of the pack with six birdies to finish at 17-under.

Gary Woodland had an early moment in first place, but shot par in the round and finds himself tied for fourth.

Rory McIlroy finished the day tied for second after carding a 5-under-par 65, moving up six places. He had six birdies and one bogey.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is tied for 15th with an overall score of 5-under. He rebounded after a rough start to Round 1.

The field is loaded with big names since only the top 50 golfers in the FedEx Cup points standings after last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship qualified for the BMW Championship.

The top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings after the Sunday, Aug. 23 final round will move on to the Tour Championship in Atlanta next week. It means there’s intrigue atop the leaderboard, as well as on the bubble, as the world’s best try to make it to next week’s Tour Championship. Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas are among those battling for the final spots to close out the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Wyndham Clark completes superb third round, reigns alone at the top

Wyndham Clark had himself a day. After stumbling at the first hole with a double bogey, the U.S. Open champion rebounded with six birdies and an eagle. He ended his round with a bogey and carded a 5-under-par for the round, but sits alone at the top of the leaderboard with a cumulative score of -17.

Rory McIlroy finishes tied for second after stellar third round

Rory McIlroy finishes tied for second after carding a 5-under-par in the third round, moving up six places. He had six birdies and one bogey on the day. At the 18th hole, he chipped a shot out of the bunker and cleanly onto the green. A nice tap-in gave him par on the hole and secured his place on the leaderboard.

Wyndham Clark continues tear

There is no slowing down Wyndham Clark. The BMW Championship leader has hit three birdies in four holes for a score of 17-under.

On the 10th hole, he drained an impressive 30-foot putt.

Rory McIlroy has three birdies in the third round, including one he just hit at the 13th hole. He drained the ball in two strokes. The six-time major winner climbed five positions on Saturday. After starting the day tied for eighth place, he now sits tied in third place with a score of -10.

Wyndham Clark hits eagle to further lead

Wyndham Clark is in the zone. This year’s U.S. Open winner furthered his lead in the third round with an eagle on the eighth hole. He reached the cup in only three shots to put his score at -14 at the top of the leaderboard. He’s now three strokes ahead of Gary Woodland in second place.

Wyndham Clark said not so fast! He takes back the solo lead with a 21-foot putt for a birdie on the fourth hole. He sits at 11-under.

Woodland slides back down to second place with a bogey on the fifth hole, bringing his score to -10.

Gary Woodland takes the solo lead

Gary Woodland has claimed the top spot on the leaderboard after Wyndham Clark stumbled with a double bogey on the opening hole of the third round. Woodland remains steady at even par through three holes, sitting at 11-under overall.

Rory McIlroy inside the top five

Rory McIlroy’s birdie on the third hole moved him to 8-under through three, putting him in contention as he steadily climbs the leaderboard.

Scottie Scheffler’s second birdie in the first nine

Scottie Scheffler carded his second birdie of the third round at the par-5 eighth hole, moving to 1-under for the day. He is moving up the leaderboard and is now tied for 21st.

Scottie Scheffler’s rocky third round

Scottie Scheffler played the first three holes at even par, but a bogey on the fifth dropped him to 2-under for the tournament and 1-over for the day. As a result, he has slipped down the leaderboard and is now tied for 32nd.

Aaron Rai is on fire

Aaron Rai started his third round in spectacular fashion, carding birdies on each of the first three holes. He maintained his momentum with steady pars on the fourth and fifth holes, helping him climb significantly up the leaderboard and sit tied for 19th.

Sepp Straka is making moves

Sepp Straka is climbing the leaderboard after opening with a birdie on the first hole, then carding a par 4 on the second. He is now even par and tied for 37th early in the third round.

BMW Championship third round underway

Sahith Theegala and Nicolai Hojgaard have teed off to begin the third round at the BMW Championship on Saturday.

There is a $20 million purse on the line at the 2026 BMW Championship, with the winner of the second FedEx Cup playoff event set to take home $3.6 million. Even the last-place finisher is guaranteed $66,000 with no cut and a 50-golfer field.
