The second week of the 2026 NFL preseason rolls on Saturday with 10 games and several big names in action.
Jayden Daniels will make his preseason debut alongside several other starters when the Commanders visit the Lions to open the slate. It will be the first look at Daniels in a game setting under new offensive coordinator David Blough.
At 1 p.m. ET, Shedeur Sanders looks to improve his standing in the Browns‘ quarterback battle when he gets the start against the Bills in Cleveland. Deshaun Watson got the start last week. Also in the early afternoon, the Ravens face the Vikings while the Falcons face the Colts.
The 4 p.m. window features the Saints at the Rams and the Giants at the Dolphins. At 7 p.m., the Bears face the Bengals and the Eagles take on the Patriots. At 7:30, the Chiefs play the Buccaneers. The Cowboys and Cardinals wrap up the busy day with a 10 p.m. ET kickoff.
It’s unclear which starters will play for several games, especially considering many teams are coming off joint practices against one another, but there are crucial battles for starting spots, depth spots and roster spots across the league. Follow along here as we keep up with all the developments!

Caleb’s fast start
Fresh off his breakout sophomore season, Caleb Williams started his 2026 season with an 18-yard completion to fellow former first-round pick Rome Odunze. Williams completed just one of his following four attempts on the drive, but the Bears were still able to take an early 3-0 lead.
Williams’ night is over. Case Keenum takes over for Chicago’s second possession.

Harbaugh’s first W with Big Blue
John Harbaugh gets his first win as Giants coach as New York leaves Miami with a 26-3 win. The Giants got a spirited effort from their defense that held Miami to just 102 total yards. Tyrone Tracy had another rough game, though, committing a fumble after exposing Jaxson Dart to a big hit last week after missing a block.

Vintage OBJ
Odell Beckham Jr. is doing what he can to make the Giants’ 53-man roster. The three-time Pro Bowler just made a nifty catch and run late in the first half in Miami.

New QB1 in the ATL?
Jack Strand had himself a day. Against the Colts, Strand went 12 of 17 for 212 yards and a score in leading the Falcons to a 34-6 win. He also had a TD on the ground.
Strand isn’t in the running to be the Falcons’ QB1, but if nothing else, his performance on Saturday should instill confidence in Kevin Stefanski that he is more than capable of filling in for either Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagovailoa if need be,

Bennett showing off the wheels
Stetson Bennett beat the Saints’ defense for his second rushing TD of the day late in the first half. Bennett has been stellar through the air as well. So far, he’s 19 of 21 for 181 yards with no picks.

FINAL: Bills 31, Browns 7
Shedeur Sanders threw one touchdown pass and one interception in a mostly solid showing, Deshaun Watson struggled mightily and threw an interception, and the Bills dominated the Browns 31-7.
Kyle Allen and Shane Buechele both threw touchdown passes, with Buechele’s going 71 yards to Ja’Mori Maclin, the nephew of former NFL standout Jeremy Maclin. Buechele and Ray Davis also ran for scores.
The Browns’ quarterback decision could be coming any day.

FINAL: Falcons 34, Colts 6
After a dismal preseason Week 1, the Falcons romped past the Colts. Tyler Goodson, Nathan Carter and Jack Strand all ran for touchdowns, and Cash Jones caught a touchdown pass from Strand.
Anthony Richardson went 3 for 9 for 24 yards and took two sacks in the second half. Not great.

Deshaun Watson intercepted
This is a bad decision that required a perfect throw. And while Watson actually delivered an almost perfect throw, when it easn’t perfect, it was doomed.
Both of the Browns’ top quarterbacks have been picked off today.

FINAL: Ravens 13, Vikings 3
Rough day for the Minnesota offense, which was led by J.J. McCarthy for one quarter, Carson Wentz for one quarter and Max Brosmer for two quarters. The Ravens racked up five sacks, Silas Walters picked off Brosmer, and Amani Oruwariye recovered a fumble.
Joe Fagnano completed 15 of 20 passes with a touchdown to LaJohntay Wester. Fagnano has impressed this preseason.

Shedeur Sanders’ day (likely) done
According to Todd Monken’s plan leading into the game, Deshaun Watson will take over in the third quarter. That means Sanders finishes …
- 9 for 11
- 74 yards
- 1 touchdown, 1 interception
- 1 sack
- 1 carry for 2 yards
There were some nice moments, though the interception puts a damper on the performance.

Shedeur Sanders picked off
Shedeur Sanders connected on his first eight passes before throwing slightly behind Jermaine Terry II and getting picked off on the deflection by Damar Hamlin.
This is a catch you’d like to see Terry make, but it’s also a throw Sanders needs to make more accurately.
Sanders had been really good on the drive, converting a third and 15 with a 23-yard strike to Luke Floriea.

FINAL: Lions 17, Commanders 13
The Commanders’ first-team offense went three and out, the defense got a strip sack that resulted in a touchdown, and the Lions won behind rushing touchdowns by Josh Dobbs and Trayveon Williams.
Detroit out-rushed Washington 169-35. The Commanders’ offense did not find the end zone.

Perfect start for Shedeur Sanders, who throws TD on opening drive
He may have had to wait out a rain delay, but Shedeur Sanders came out on fire: 4 for 4 for 43 yards and a touchdown to Luke Floriea on the opening drive.
Sanders looked calm, cool and collected, delivering several on-target throws, including a 16-yarder to Blake Whiteheart on a fourth-and-2 in which he got through his progressions before finding his tight end.

At long last, Bills-Browns is set to resume.
After a suspension of roughly one hour, Bills-Browns is back. The Bills’ backups were driving when the game was interrupted, but after that drive ends, Shedeur Sanders will get his chance.

Not the best day for J.J. McCarthy
With Carson Wentz entering the game, J.J. McCarthy’s day appears to be over after four scoreless drives. The numbers are …
- 5 for 10
- 81 passing yards
- 1 sack for -6 yards
More than half of his yards came on a 50-yard completion to Tai Felton. There were way too many misses — most of them high — but there was also way too much pressure on him. The second-string Vikings offensive line did him no favors.

Tai Felton climbs the ladder, but J.J. McCarthy struggles thereafter
How about this catch from 2025 third-rounder and 2026 training camp standout Tai Felton?
Unfortunately, J.J. McCarthy couldn’t finish the drive with a touchdown. On second-and-goal, he missed Felton high in the back of the end zone. On fourth-and-goal, he missed a wide open Myles Price on a throw that simply has to be made. McCarthy’s poor accuracy is one of the many reasons he’s already lost his starting spot.

Josh Dobbs to the house
All right, so after a fumble and an interception, Josh Dobbs just did this. Not too shabby!

Two possessions, two turnovers for Josh Dobbs
The Lions lost backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to retirement earlier this month and brought in Josh Dobbs to fill that role behind Jared Goff. It’s safe to say it hasn’t gone to plan today.
To be fair, Dobbs has only been with Detroit a few weeks, and this is the preseason, without many starters.

Commanders defense scores TD less than a minute in
The first score of Saturday is a defensive one! Amik Robertson absolutely clobbered Josh Dobbs on a blitz, and after a mad scramble for the ball, rookie Joshua Josephs ended up with it in the end zone.
Much better start for Washington’s defense after it allowed an opening-drive touchdown to Miami last week.

How Shedeur Sanders can make his case to be a starter
Todd Monken expects to name his starting quarterback early this week, and it seems like Deshaun Watson is ahead of Shedeur Sanders. If there’s one last chance for Sanders to change that, it’s today.
The Browns aren’t playing many of their starters, but rookies Spencer Fano and Denzel Boston are expected to start alongside Sanders. The Bills aren’t expected to play many, if any, starters, either.
Sanders has to be more careful with the ball — he threw a bad pick last week — and avoid negative plays in general. He also has to accentuate his strength as an intermediate/deep thrower. He had a couple of nice moments last week, including a 35-yarder to Luke Floriea.
Watson will play in the third quarter.
