Two of boxing’s most polarizing personalities will clash over the WBA welterweight championship on Saturday night when Rolando “Rolly” Romero defends the belt against Teofimo Lopez Jr.

Romero won the “regular” WBA title with a decision win over a lifeless Ryan Garcia in May 2025. Romero was subsequently elevated to full champion when Jaron “Boots” Ennis vacated the belt to move up in weight.

Lopez has held world titles at lightweight (where he was a unified champion) and junior welterweight. He has been prone to poor performances in unexpected situations, though he possesses some of the best natural abilities in the sport. In his most recent fight, Lopez was dismantled by Shakur Stevenson over 12 rounds, losing his WBO junior welterweight title in the process.

Some other familiar names are set for the card, including rising middleweight star Yoenli Hernandez and Gary Antonio Russell.
