Trump attacks Democrats as ‘communists’ — while acquiring government stakes in private companies

Trump’s actions have drawn criticism even from Republicans, who caution that their party shouldn’t abandon long-held beliefs about the government’s role in a free-market economy.

WASHINGTON — Step aside, “socialism.” President Donald Trump has seized on “communism” as his new favored line of attack against Democrats, having invoked the word more than 100 times since late June as he tries to rouse voters and preserve a narrow Republican congressional majority in the upcoming midterm elections.
