He oversaw a failed execution. Tennessee won’t say if the doctor will participate in the next one.

With another execution set for Thursday, questions still surround Dr. Mark Walton Fowler’s qualifications in the wake of a previous execution that was halted after 90 minutes.

Tennessee is poised to put a man to death Thursday in its first attempt since May, when an execution was called off after team members struggled to insert a backup IV line for the lethal injection and witnesses say the prisoner was left in excruciating pain.
